Pristina
Pristina is a lively city where you will get to experience a handful of historical sites and modern infrastructure. The museum displays exhibits related to archeology, natural science, and the Kosovan Liberation War. Aside from old-world attractions, Pristina is a modern shopping and entertainment center abounding in shops, pubs and restaurants.
Germia Park
After exploring the crowdy Pristina, you can take a rest at Germia Park which is located right at the edge of the Kosovo’s capital. The park features pine forests with diverse fauna and flora. The stunning scenery offers a great backdrop for hiking and biking. You can also try rock-climbing, basketball and volleyball. Furthermore, there is a swimming pool with loungers overlooking the Rhodope Mountains covered with woods. In winter, the mountain slopes are used for skiing.
Prizren
A fortress crowned atop a hill over the town, mosques and churches, and a slow-flowing river snaking through the medieval houses make Prizren one of Kosovo’s main tourist destinations. After strolling the narrow streets lined with red-roofed houses, artisanal boutiques and laid-back cafés, take an uphill walk to the fortress to admire the fascinating panorama of Prizren.
If you are not in mood for a hike, you can take a seat on a riverside bench and watch the lazy Bistrica River passing by the medieval buildings. Don’t forget to have a taste of the local cuisine in one of the traditional restaurants.
The Rugova Canyon
Kosovo is home to one of the largest and deepest canyons in Europe. The Rugova Canyon spreads over 25 kilometers and its depth can reach 1,000 meters in places. The Peć Bistrica flows frantically through the rugged mountains creating a breathtaking scenery.
The best place to start the exploration of the canyon is the town of Peja. Activities include hiking, rock climbing and cave exploring. Rugova boasts the only via ferrata in the Balkans that allows visitors to climb rocks. The snowy season offers opportunities for snowboarding and skiing.
Peja
Peja is the closest town to the Rugova Canyon, hence serves both as a starting point and a place where you can unwind after your intense journey. You can visit souvenir shops and taste the local food in one of the many restaurants. Also, you can explore the bustling Old Bazaar that offers fresh produce, handicrafts and homemade cheese. On a sunny day, you can take a sightseeing tour of the town admiring the City Center architecture, the Zenel Beg Tower, the Ethnological Museum, and the UNESCO-listed Patriarchate Monastery.
Mirusha Waterfalls
If you are a nature lover, pay a visit to the multi-step waterfalls in the Mirusha Park. The park has 13 river lakes with waterfalls between them surrounded by a canyon spreading over 10 kilometers. The highest waterfall is 22 meters.
